Fast-forward to 1477 and the first diamond engagement ring appeared. It was commissioned by Archduke Maximilian of Austria for his bride, Mary of Burgundy. Diamonds continued to be used over the centuries, and it’s clear to this day they remain a very popular choice for couples.
