Manage their phones.

Depending on your child’s age, they may have a smartphone. Figuring out how to deal with the phone can be a tricky situation. Consider the following points to determine how you should handle it.

• Will it be beneficial for their studies?
• Is the phone distracting?
• Does your school administration support having personal phones in the classroom?
• Can the phone be used at predetermined times, such as to take photos for a project or use a specific app for educational purposes?
• If personal phones are allowed for one part of the day, how will the devices be secured when the related project is over?

Use the answers to these questions to facilitate an open line of communication regarding your students’ smartphones. When they know what to expect, they will understand and respect the rules.
