The hallway of our home gets the most traffic and is one of the most neglected areas. It is here that you greet your guests, it’s the first place that you see when you get home from work, and it probably stores a lot of stuff too. So, how can you change your hallway? Here are some of our favourite ideas.

Add a hat stand

A hat stand is a great way to store your coats and bags without having to drill a hole in the wall. If you have guests around a lot, it can be a great place for them to park their coats instead of leaving them on the arms of the sofas. As well as being useful, it can be a great feature piece to add that extra something to the space. If you can get one that has an umbrella stand at the bottom, you will have bagged a double-whammy for your hallway.

Extra storage

If there is one thing that we know for sure, it is that handmade furniture is on trend and it is one of the best ways to get your storage needs for your hall achieved. It seems that custom furniture is one of the best ways to change a space and make the most out of it. Storage can be used for any number of things, such as handbag hiding, shoe stacking, and coat collection. It is best to know what type of storage you need and want before trying to add things in to ensure that you don’t choose the wrong items.

A table

Ok, why is the table option not in the previous point? Well, a table does not mean storage, and storage does not mean a table. A table is the place to drop the contents of your pockets, abandon your keys, and leave your purse in a safe place. It can also be a great focal point in a hallway with a lamp and dish to drop those items. If you have a landline phone, you could pop a handset on the table too so it is out of the living room and not interrupting TV time when it rings.

Rugs

If you have tiles, you need a rug. If you have carpet in the hallway, you need a rug. In fact, we can’t think of a floor type that wouldn’t benefit from having a rug in the hallway. A runner can be as long as you need it to be. The reason for the rug is that it can trap the dirt from your shoes so that your carpet lasts for longer. Or, in the case of tiles or wooden floors, it can trap the wet from your shoes and stop you from sliding all over the place. A word of caution, choose a rug that is machine washable and will fit in your washing machine. This way, if it gets too grubby, you can pop it in the washing machine and have a fresh rug to brighten your hallway whenever you need it.
