principal hotel Manchester review

Hello lovely ones! Today I’m back with a little travel content, my FAVE type of posts – always. It’s been a busy few weeks for me as we finally completed on the house, got the keys and then a nightmare ensued! I will save this for another post though, as I’m going to be blogging all about our first ever house renovation. Wish us luck…

Alongside the drama and chaos, we headed to Manchester last weekend for my birthday. It’s a tradition which I’ve sort of made and trapped Charlie into, that we head away every year for my bday. Last year we had all the fun in East London and stayed at Ace Hotel. This year, Charlie booked us in at The Principal and booked tickets to see Feeder who are one of my fave bands. I’d never been to Manchester before, so I was excited to explore a new city and stay in such a beautiful hotel which I’d heard so many amazing things about!

The hotel itself is based at around a 10 minute walk from the hub of the city centre, and is a stunning red brick, grade II listed building from 1891.

The hotel reception is simply beautiful and definitely sets the bar for the rest of the hotel. It’s a truly magnificent building, and feels ever so luxurious. The staff were very attentive and helpful, we even scored a free upgrade because it was my birthday which I thought was very nice! I couldn’t wait to check out what our room had in store for us…

The moment we stepped into the room I knew we had made the right decision with this hotel! The room was spacious, tastefully decorated and featured the BEST bathroom I’ve ever had the pleasure of using. Just look at that beautiful bathtub! It’s given me some major inspo for our home, I need a black roll top bath tub in my life asap.

The dark panels and arch windows are, I assume, original features of the building. The tall ceilings gave an extra feeling of space, especially for Charlie who stands at around 6ft2. The bed was ginormous and oh so comfy. I felt very relaxed and at ease, which is a testament as to how clean the room was, as I’m a bit of a hygiene freak.

As we had reservations elsewhere we didn’t try and of the food on offer at the hotel, but I’ve heard great things about The Refuge which is open all day and serves breakfast as well as delicious cocktails.

If I’m ever back in the city I know exactly where I’ll be booking into. We had a brilliant stay and fantastic time in Manchester.

Until next time!
