Working can be the antithesis of creativity. If you’re dedicating your life to a career, when you come home again, all the brain power you had at the beginning of the day is going to be wiped out. 

And that’s what makes keeping up with creative hobbies such a hard thing. If you don’t have the energy, even if you’ve got the time, you’re never going to really get into your passions again. 

But that’s something we can try to fix here. Indeed, there are quite a few careers out there that allow you to reserve your time and energy for the creative skills you prize. Sometimes, they even allow you to do so whilst you’re on the job! And if you’re looking for a role that’ll uplift your creative needs, here are a few to consider.

Web Designer

Web design is a very creative pursuit in itself, but it’s also the kind of job where you work the hours you like. It’s a flexible career, especially if you’re a freelance designer, and you can plan your projects around the creativity you really want to get involved with. 

That’s why so many creative minds go into the software field. Coding can be another type of art, in truth, and you can build a sparkling portfolio that reflects that. 

Truck Driver

Being on the road gets boring after a while. However, when you’re a truck driver working in the logistics sector, you’re going to have hours to yourself in the driver minicab. And while a lot of people use their own music, podcasts, and audiobooks to stay entertained, you can use this time to get creative. 

Get yourself a professional driver certification and you’ll be well on the way to becoming a truck driver, whether you’d like to work for local transport companies or you’d prefer to travel a long haul distance. 

Once you’ve secured a role you like, turn your mind to pursuing your creative ideas. For example, if you’re a writer, set up an audio recording device in your cab and simply dictate your ideas out loud as they come to you. Just make sure you keep your eyes on the road in the meantime. 

Childminder or Pet Sitter

Childminding and/or pet sitting is usually done in your own home. Clients drop off their children or their pets with you for the day or a few hours and then come back to fetch them later. 

If you get so much time to spend at home, you’re going to always have your hobby around you! 

That means you’ll have twice the amount of access to them, and you can even incorporate them into the service you’re providing. Kids love being able to take part in art, and when the pets are taking a nap, you can break out the easel or crochet needles.
