5 Cosy Cottages For Your Next Escape
Now that it finally feels like we’re emerging from the depths of winter and looking forward to spring, I don’t know about you but my urge to book up every weekend with fun plans and adventures has never been stronger! With a dog and a baby in tow, this year I’ll be focussing on getaways closer to home. Think cosy cottage scapes complete with slow mornings, long walks on the beach, picnics, pub stop-offs, and evenings relaxing by a roaring log fire. Does it get any more idyllic?
Locations on my hitlist for the upcoming months include Cornwall, Dorset and The Cotswolds…three of my favourite destinations in the UK that I’m itching to explore more of. I’m also hoping to head up to the Lake District for our annual trip, every time we leave I’m always eager to return, it’s my absolute top destination for an outdoorsy weekend.
Finding accommodation is a little trickier when you have a pup with you, which is why Iove Classic Cottages and their clear and easy to use website. You can narrow down your location, and whether the property in question is dog-friendly which is super handy. Plus every cottage is handpicked and inspected by the Classic Cottages team, so you know you won’t be disappointed!
Here are my top five cottages that have been hastily bookmarked…
The Reef Knot – Cornwall
The stunning neutral interiors of The Reef Knot instantly drew me in to find out more, so I was delighted when I discovered this cosy cottage is also dog-friendly, yippee. I just love the exposed beam and light and airy feel of this Victorian cottage. The location is also a bonus, situated in the picturesque town of Fowey, there’s plenty to do and see nearby with plenty of shops, restaurants, and even boat trips right on your doorstep. There are two bedrooms making this the perfect escape for families!
Stargazey Barn – Cornwall
If you’re a couple looking for a romantic escape, then Stargazey Barn might be just what you’re looking for. This secluded bolthole is the perfect destination to unwind and enjoy each other’s company. There’s also a peaceful garden for you, and perhaps your four-legged friend to enjoy, I can just imagine those slow mornings with a cup of coffee and a good book! Just a short drive away and you can find yourself on the beautiful beaches of St Ives and Sennen Cove. It really is a little love nest, compact but with everything you need for a delightful stay, including a breathtaking view over Mount’s Bay.

Barn Owls Cottage – Dorset
Dorset is high up on my ‘must go back’ list after having first visited in 2021 and falling in love with the Jurassic Coast. I know, I can’t believe it took me 28 years to actually venture down to Dorset, and I definitely need to make up for lost time! Barn Owls Cottage looks simply perfect if you’re heading away as a family, or perhaps as a small group of friends. With three bedrooms (including two twin rooms) you’ll have plenty of space to relax. The open-plan sitting/dining room makes for a social space, and I love the simple yet tasteful neutral bedroom decor. You won’t be far from miles of stunning coastline, and Weymouth is just a 30-minute drive away.
Piggy in The Middle – The Cotswolds
Ah The Cotswolds, arguably one of my favourite destinations for a long weekend in the UK. I forever feel like I’m the star in a period drama when I walk around the beautiful towns and villages, with the gorgeous stone-built cottages and quaint boutique stores. Conveniently located around 2 hours away from where I am in Cambridgeshire, I’m always on the lookout for new and interesting rentals and hotels in the area. Now I know where my next stay will be – just LOOK at those elegant interiors. Piggy in the Middle is a two bedroom apartment based in Moreton-in-Marsh, a lovely little market town that makes for a wonderful base when exploring The Cotswolds. You can enjoy some wonderful eateries, pubs, and shops quite literally on your doorstep.
Number 5 – The Lake District
This three-bedroom cottage is located in one of my favourite areas of the Lake District – Ambleside. Brimming with cafes, restaurants, and pubs, it’s the perfect area to stay for a hearty post-hike lunch and pint. This newly renovated property looks like it would make for a great base to explore everything this area of outstanding beauty has to offer! With three rooms, including one twin, it’s ideal for small groups and families, with open-plan living for a great social vibe. There’s also a courtyard patio, ideal for a morning coffee whilst you map out your plans for the day ahead! Oh and most importantly, it’s dog-friendly too, so your furry friend can join in on the adventure.
