You’ve probably already been to London at least once before, if not, add it to your bucket list! Like most people who head to the big smoke, you will have no doubt done the major tourist sights and attractions. You know the kinds of things – Buckingham Palace, Oxford Street, the London Eye and the Tower of London. There’s so much to do in this gorgeous city that you might still have a few very touristy things on your to-do list even if you have visited London a few times already. I’ve been spending time in London pretty much every month for the past 10 or so years and there is still so much I want to do!
Why not get off the beaten track and do a few things that aren’t that high up on most tourists’ bucket lists? That way, you can explore more of the city and experience it like a local. Here are a few things that everyone needs to do at least once in London.
See A West End Show
Going to see a show in London is a very popular evening activity. There are loads of theatres in the city’s buzzing West End area, and you will be able to find plenty of last minute theatre tickets in London without too many issues. My favourites include The Lion King (SO good), Jersey Boys, and Wicked. If you have already been to a West End show, then why not try some of the city’s smaller theatres? They are located all over, and you will find some really unique and thought-provoking shows.
Explore The British Library
You can easily while away a few hours in the British Library. It’s such a huge space, there will certainly be plenty for you to discover here, even if you aren’t all that into books. If you are a keen bookworm, though, you might find that you want to spend a couple of days browsing the library’s shelves! As well as books, you can browse artefacts and exhibits. There are also regular events and talks hosted in the library which are often highly popular with visitors.
Hit The Street-Food Stalls
London is a city for foodies as there are so many incredible restaurants and eateries. You don’t always have to sit in, though, as there are some brilliant street-food markets all around the city as well. Borough Market has to be one of the most famous, but if you want to dodge the crowds then it’s worth heading to Maltby Street Market or Berwick Street Market. Throughout summer, Vegan Nights, is also well worth a visit. You will find an abundance of delicious vegan food and it’s a really fun vibe.
Stroll Around The Parks
Worried about the lack of clean and fresh air when you are in London? There’s really no need to be as you will be able to get plenty of fresh air in the city’s many parks. Eight parks, including Richmond, Greenwich, St. Jame’s, and Hyde Park are known as the Royal Parks. They provide tranquil and pleasant areas where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll. Why not make an afternoon of it and pack a picnic if it’s a nice day? This is one of my favourite things to do when spending a long weekend in the city.
Enjoy a Sky High Lunch
If you’re looking for lunch with a difference, the Sky Garden is perfect! I booked this for Charlie’s 25th birthday (a few years ago now) and we had a great time. It provides a great view over the city, and the food was delicious too. The perfect spot for a Insta snap.
Have a great time when you are next visiting beautiful London!
